I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where I continue to live and make my work. My photography is driven by curiosity about the evolving nature of human relationships. I shoot primarily on medium format cameras, both film and digital, to remain intentional and slow down in my practice. I create portraits of myself, loved ones, strangers and photographs of objects in domestic or natural settings that hold importance. I explore how a person’s body language and gaze can convey an attitude through a photograph, and I experiment with performance to create new meanings. Drawing from personal experiences, I examine the transitions of life, and the emotions tied to them. I contemplate intimacy in my relationships. I explore ways to complicate that intimacy, whether that be reflecting on my Catholic faith or the strangeness of leaving my childhood behind. I contemplate on the coexistence of seemingly opposite forces in my life. At its core, my practice investigates the duality of the human life, the various emotions associated with every moment, the complexity of intimacy, and the uncanniness of change. Photography allows me to reflect on my own experiences and embrace the strangeness of getting older.
